Darwin is a free, open source, Unix-like operating system first released by Apple Computer in 2000. It is also the core set of components upon which Mac OS X was developed.

Mac OS X is a proprietary operating system developed and sold by Apple Computer, Inc., that is included with all currently shipping Apple Macintosh computers. It is also sold separately as an upgrade package.
